A Controversial Decision
John Adams, a lawyer from Boston Massachusetts, made the controversial decision to represent the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre. He was scrutinized by the Boston people, but this did not stop him as he was determined to prove the innocents of the British soldiers. Through great success and hardship he won the case. After he won he was scrutinised by locals and would find it hard to walk through town without being stared down upon.
The Continental Congress
John Adams played a strong role in the continental congress as a delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress, he played a leading role in persuading Congress to adopt the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776. Massachusetts sent Adams to the first and second Continental Congresses in 1774 and from 1775 to 1778. In June 1775 he nominated George Washington of Virginia as commander-in-chief of the army then assembled around Boston. The most important contribution he made was the idea of a ‘declaration of independence’. His influence in Congress was powerful, and almost from the beginning, he wanted permanent separation from Britain.
President and The First Lady
Abigail Adams is a strong working and strong minded person. She inspires John Adams and she is his right hand woman. She influences him in being stronger and more powerful in his speeches. One of the scenes where we can gain insight into the Character of Abigale Adams, is the scene where John has to leave to go to France and Abigale is left to look after all three children on her own. She show leadership and compassion and over all love towards her three children and John. If I were to interview Abigale I would ask her how she coped with not having her husband around often in the early years of their marriage? I would also asked her why she stayed with john when they kept fighting? And also how do you think john would have approached the continental congress without you helping him?
The Portrayal
John Adams was portrayed as a stubborn and impatient person. He would always speak whats on his mind and doesn't really think about what his words can do to the people around him. These were some of his weaknesses, another one of his weaknesses that could also be considered a strength, is his dedication to his country. On many occasions in the series he would have to leave his family for lengthy amounts of time. This cause miner conflicts between himself and a few family members. The reason why this can also be considered one of his strengths his the fact that he never gave up on what he believed in. He would always be very persistent in trying to complete a task. words I would use to describe John Adams would be Stubborn, Strong minded, Honest, loving, Patriot, man of conviction and Principled. The scenes where he sheds the most light on his views and values are the scenes where he is talking to Abigail.
The White House Years
When John Adams was elected to be President he faced many difficult challenges such as making decisions to build armies to defend America and also making decisions such as the alien and sedition act. The alien and sedition act was a collection of laws that could deport foreigners and also make it harder for new immigrants to vote. John Adams had good reasons for doing this but some people didn't agree with it. The reason why Adams did it was to eliminate any threats to American Security. John Adams didn't see himself as someone that would be remembered. In the series he talks about the painting of himself to be wrong and that he would not be remembered. I agree with this and i think that more attention needs to be focused on John Adams because he was a big part of the decoration of independence and he was also president of The United States. John Adams should be remembered as one of the great few that Established America as United colonies. He should be remembered for his Outstanding work as president and also everything in between such as being a loving farther and devoted to his country.
